So Im new to the casual play-group, and Im not Familiar wit hall of the house rules and customs yet.

Im pretty tough on myself when it comes to playing with actual cards rather than proxies. If I dont own the card, I wont pretend I have it.

However, Im bummed today. have two outstanding orders form Star City coming to me in the mail... my Planar Chaos Box, plus I ordered a separate order of singles for my W/U Sliver deck. I was confident the mail would come yesterday, and all would be OK for the Sliver deck. Well, I was wrong.

So I now have a 250 deck, with 13 sliver proxies that I made as "place-holders" until my stuff arrived. I also made 8 "place-holders" for Sinew Slivers and Vindicate Slivers taht would come in my PC box. And I was so hoping to play this new deck at tonight's gathering.

They'll probably be in my mailbox tonight when I get home. Shucks.

Whats everyone's opinion on this? As a casual group, do you pretty much just play with what you have, or can I slide a bit tonight?
I technically own the cards, I just dont have them yet.

Oh that's completely fine. I understand the frustration of orders taking too long. The only proxies we care about are the ones you don't actually own (even then we just give a hard time, unless it's extreme). You own your's they're just not here yet.

I've actually been waiting for the Jitte's I need for one of my decks to arrive for 2 1/2 weeks now. I'd proxy them up, but I haven't felt the need to play the deck yet.

I really only proxie when I am either

    A. Testing a new deck to see if I like it but have most cards

    B. Am waiting on the cards in the mail

    C. Have been trying to get the cards and have every intent to buy/trade for them as soon as I am able.

    D. Have the cards but not enough for 438948231 decks using them.

I'm a little more lax on the "rule" but no one really cares that much, but be prepared to get shit about it. Thats what we do (:

I will have to agree with Aaron on this one, but it gets exponentially worse when Allen is around.

Yeah ... Proxies are ok as long as you're not proxying moxen (you DON'T own) and such. We'll STILL give you hell for it, but it's ok. Personally, I only proxy when I've bought the cards, but they're not in yet. I would probably also proxy my black lotus as I'm really anal about actually playing with it, but I'd only do so after playing it in a deck once (as proof of ownership).

yeah, I think it's perfectly acceptable to use proxies when playtesting a deck. It's better to find out your deck design sucks before spending the time and money to get the cards you thought you needed.

What we should do is to see if we can get all of the members of our group to respond to this thread that they think proxies are neato-keen. That would be sweet!
